April Director-y (2014 edition)

March was a bit of a crazy month, but we somehow survived.

I hope everyone enjoyed Peter Wacks’ presentation at our last meeting. Check out his website http://peterjwacks.com/ to learn more.
Our guest this month will be writer Mark Everett Stone. You can learn more about him at his web page, http://www.markeverettstone.com/about-mark.html.

I saw a lot of DASFA members at The Time Traveler’s Almanac release party at The Broadway Book Mall. The event looked to be very successful as the store was packed with standing room only by the time I got there. The readings and the Q and A were very enjoyable. If you have not picked up a copy, I am sure Nina and Ron have a few left.

The DASFA sponsored Doctor Who Trivia contest at Anomalycon went well. We got a good crowd both times. Lots of T-shirts were given away and a few memberships. Hopefully we will see these new members at our next meeting. I got a lot of positive feedback from people who enjoyed the trivia. I am already working on sponsoring a similar contest at Myth and Legends Con and we are planning on holding a big tea dueling competition at MileHiCon.

Anomalycon had some real cool swag this year. Kronda got with local writer and artists that were going to be at the con and put together a set of 11 cards that on one side had a short story of about 200 words and on the other a piece of original art for that story. If you pre-registered you were given 11 of the same cards with the idea that you would then go around and trade to get a complete set. My son and I got a good start and had completed our sets by the beginning of opening ceremonies. Then on Sunday we went around and got as many of them signed as possible. We only missed one writer and four artists. The cards were really nice and unique. One of the enjoyable aspects of getting out to the various cons is to see what they can come up with in swag.

Looks like we will have a special prize in our raffle this month. Fathom Events and Priceline.com are thrilled to bring one of the most recognizable actors of our time, William Shatner, to select cinemas nationwide for a hilarious one-night event on Thursday, April 24th. Shatner's World, the critically acclaimed one-man show, takes audiences on an exhilarating behind-the-scenes voyage through his storied life and career. In addition to a spectacular show, audiences will be treated to an exclusive welcome from the man himself! They are giving us a set of tickets to the event and they will be in the April 19th raffle. I am going to require that whoever wins these tickets has to write up a review of it for the May DASFAX.
